Decision made we are looking at stainless steel as a material, first quotes in put the job way way over budget! a few new contacts and we're back on course :)
Now time to size the pieces and work up a scaled plan.

Proposals Part II
Having re-measured the space and scaled up the Beacon logo, the best use of space is to lay each traingular shape on it's side creating a rolling hills effect reflecting the landscape surrounding Wantage.
The three suggested materials for the forms are; concrete hollowed with planting into the top facing surfaces, stone with pattern etched into or stainless steel with pattern either laser or water jet cut, the patern has yet to be worked on and the visuals are somewhat clunky, but it gives a bit more of an idea of what the installation could look like.

Quick pop in to re-measure the LongAbout and meet the new Manager
Not happy with the positioning of the logo 'Beacon' shapes in the LongAbout, so wanted to re-measure the space and work out how the space can be utilised more fully. It's like an optical illusion! so much bigger than it seems, and bigger one end than the other ... A total size of 11metres x just under 1.5 metres one end and just under 2 metres the other!

Back to School
Time to show the pupils at King Alfreds the design proposals and discuss how their ideas have fed into the final results and get some much needed feedback!
Playing with clay
Proposal Four is the favourite, time to develop this idea and consider materials, positioning and scale, first a bit of model making in clay keeping each 'beacon' shape in it's original logo position ...

playing with ideas
Time to start pulling things together, so what have we got, hmmm.
A great interest in the logo of the Beacon from the pupils at King Alfred's plus a desire to address what The Beacon does from contributors to the notice board, and of course what a Beacon is, a source of light, of celebration. So we have idea number one:
The Logo
Another continuing thread is nature, especially The Ridgeway, and the need to break up the tarmac and concrete of the car park, some of the pupils include trees within their ideas, idea number two:
And then we have transport and technology, Wantage tramway was the first steam tramway to ever run in the UK, taken out of service soon after the end of the 2nd World War. Williams Formula one have their head office in Grove, Wantage. Williams F1 is one of the world's leading Formula One teams, in fact the Williams name has been synonymous with top-level motor racing since the 1960's. Idea number three:
Technology

Anyone for (Table) Tennis?!
Another temporary intervention and a bit of fun, sprayed the mud green and the kerb white and popped in a small table tennis net. Not sure how long it will last but the conversations during the making were great, a lot of people really interested in what's happened and some great ideas for what should be installed in the LongAbout space.
